"We but mirror the world. All the tendencies in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him.

This is the divine mystery supreme. A Wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do."

Mohandas Ghandi

Accelerating Change

Looking back I think I knew from a young age that in my heart we shouldn't be eating meat, but I loved and trusted my parents, and being fair to both them and myself, and put simply, when you're a child they are the ones responsible for keeping you fed.

Pork chops, bacon, sausages, roast dinners, spaghetti Bolognaise, burgers, hot dogs. You name it and they no doubt fed it to me at some point. Ignorance is bliss they say and a lack of understanding or education allows me to accept that no harm was ever meant.

But in life we need to be very wary when the only real justification for something is that old adage 'well that's what we've always done'. Just because we've always done it, doesn't make it right. We are living in an age of enlightenment and I for one am embracing the mass move to non-meat diets. It is a truly fabulous time to for Veganism and Vegetarianism, and here on this site we will truly make a difference.

In the year 2000 when eating a meal that included lamb I remarked how strange it is that we will eat lamb but not cats. This was because I had recently given my then 8 year old daughter a kitten for her birthday.  It's a concept that I later learned is called 'Speciesism'. The decision was made, the meal unfinished, the fridge and freezer emptied and our vegetarian lives commenced.

I am in my 19th year of being meat free and I am so excited by the possibilities before us, the momentum Veganism and Vegetarianism is garnering. This then is the reason for this site; it's a centre for all Vegans and Vegetarians and very importantly for anyone considering a meat free future. It's a hub, a central meeting place, a place for  discussion, for community. It is a place that will accelerate change.

Please read all the articles on WHY WE SHOULD BE GIVING UP EATING ANIMALS if you are considering a meat free life. It is an UTTERLY compelling argument and we welcome you to a better future.

A Special Note: The above words were written at the start of the creation of this website. In the months since, and with all the additional knowledge gathered, both the editor and the editor's daughter are now fully vegan.
